Benguet, Philippines — September 23, 2024
In a heartwarming demonstration of compassion and community action, the University of the Cordilleras Junior Financial Executives (UC JFINEX) spearheaded the 2024 Stray Dogs and Check-Up Initiative Program, rescuing and rehabilitating 65 stray dogs in Asin, Tuba, Benguet.
Led by UC JFINEX officers and guided by advisers Joe-el S. Marcel, MBA, John Carlo B. De Leon, MBA, and Rene Rose B. Flores, MBA from the College of Business Administration, the program aimed to provide medical care, emotional healing, and a renewed chance at life for neglected animals. With support from Furvent Animal Rescues and Pet Medico Veterinary Clinic, the dogs were transferred from the Baguio City Pound to a sanctuary where they received immediate veterinary attention and holistic rehabilitation.

A New Beginning for Stray Dogs
Upon arrival, each dog was welcomed with warmth and care by student volunteers and veterinary professionals. The transition ensured proper nourishment, medical treatment, and emotional support, transforming lives once marked by uncertainty into stories of hope and safety.
This initiative was more than a rescue—it was a call to action. Organizers emphasized viewing stray animals as sentient beings deserving dignity and care, encouraging responsible pet ownership and community support for animal welfare.
Advocacy Beyond Rescue
The program served as a platform to promote humane treatment of animals and advocate for policies that protect animal rights. It highlighted the connection between human and animal well-being, reinforcing ethical standards in the community.
The collaboration between UC JFINEX, Furvent Animal Rescues, and Pet Medico Veterinary Clinic showcased the power of teamwork and empathy in addressing societal issues. Their efforts not only saved lives but also raised awareness about animal welfare and biodiversity conservation.
A Lasting Impact
The 2024 Stray Dogs and Check-Up Initiative Program stands as a testament to empathy, education, and action. It reflects UC’s commitment to creating a compassionate and responsible society while supporting global sustainability efforts.
As rescued dogs begin their new journey, organizers hope to expand advocacy, encouraging more individuals and institutions to adopt, volunteer, educate, and champion animal welfare.
In a world often marked by indifference, this initiative reminds us that kindness is a powerful force for change—and that every life matters.
