The University of the Cordilleras (UC) proudly celebrates the outstanding achievement of its student representatives in the IP CIRCLE League’s THE QUIZ, a prestigious national competition hosted by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL). Held in Manila, the event brought together top-performing students from higher education institutions and law schools across the country to test their knowledge of intellectual property (IP) rights, innovation, and ethical entrepreneurship.
UC’s Winning Team
Representing UC with distinction were:
- Donna May T. Tabios – BS Marketing Management, College of Business Administration
- Jezze Antoinette S. Padon – College of Accountancy
- Ma. Helen Ruth C. Tilan – College of Criminal Justice Education
The team was mentored by Ms. Vanessa Kate C. Aniceto, a faculty member of the UC Innovation and Technology Transfer Office (UC-InTTO). Together, they triumphed over 17 other teams, showcasing UC’s interdisciplinary strength and commitment to academic excellence.
Promoting Intellectual Property Awareness
THE QUIZ was part of a nationwide initiative to raise awareness about intellectual property rights, emphasizing their importance in innovation, entrepreneurship, and ethical business practices. Through this platform, UC students deepened their understanding of IP law and its role in protecting original ideas and fostering sustainable development.
Advancing the Sustainable Development Goals
This achievement reflects UC’s strong alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly through four key indicators:
SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals Indicator 17.17.1 – Strengthen multi-stakeholder partnerships for sustainable development The event showcased effective collaboration between government agencies, academic institutions, and student organizations, reinforcing the value of partnerships in advancing national development goals.
SDG 4: Quality Education Indicator 4.4.1 – Increase youth and adults with relevant skills for employment and entrepreneurship The competition enhanced students’ legal literacy and entrepreneurial thinking, equipping them with future-ready skills essential for innovation-driven careers.
SDG 5: Gender Equality Indicator 5.6.6 – Women’s mentoring schemes The all-female composition of the team, guided by a female mentor, exemplifies UC’s commitment to empowering women in leadership, law, and STEM-related fields. Their success highlights the impact of mentorship and inclusive academic support.
SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure Indicator 9.5.1 – Promote innovation and knowledge sharing By engaging in a knowledge-based competition focused on intellectual property, UC students contributed to the culture of innovation and ethical knowledge exchange.
A Testament to Excellence and Empowerment
This victory is a powerful reflection of the talent, dedication, and collaborative spirit of UC students and faculty. It also highlights the university’s commitment to gender empowerment, as the all-female team guided by a female mentor, demonstrated leadership in a field often underrepresented by women.
UC’s Commitment to Holistic Development
UC continues to champion student achievement across disciplines, fostering a culture where academic rigor, creative expression, and global competitiveness thrive. The success of Tabios, Padon, Tilan, and Aniceto reinforces UC’s mission to produce globally competitive and socially responsible professionals who lead with knowledge, integrity, and innovation.
Congratulations to the UC team for this remarkable achievement. Your success inspires the UC community to pursue excellence, equity, and lifelong learning.
