The University of the Cordilleras’ College Student Council of the College of Business Administration (CBA), in collaboration with the College of Accountancy (COA) and the College of Hospitality and Tourism Management (CHTM), successfully organized a Labor Rights Seminar titled “The Labor Force of Tomorrow: Be Equipped in Facing Ahead” on June 8, 2023, at the UC Auditorium. Originally scheduled for March 31, 2023, this seminar aimed to raise awareness and educate students about their legal rights as workers, ensuring they are well-prepared for their future careers.
The seminar began with an introduction to the “Rights2Life: Towards a Responsive Criminal Justice System in the Philippines” initiative by Dr. Darlene D. Tagarino. This initiative focuses on creating a more responsive and just criminal justice system in the country, highlighting the importance of legal rights and protections for all citizens.
The first guest speaker, Mr. Rodel J. Dumlao, provided an in-depth discussion on Labor Standards. He covered essential topics such as minimum wage laws, working hours, and occupational safety and health standards, emphasizing the importance of these regulations in protecting workers’ rights and ensuring fair treatment in the workplace.

Following Mr. Dumlao, Mr. Rane Ramos took the stage to discuss Labor Relations and the Basic Rights of Workers. His presentation focused on the dynamics between employers and employees, the role of labor unions, and the legal frameworks that support workers’ rights to organize and bargain collectively. Mr. Ramos also highlighted the significance of understanding these rights to effectively navigate and resolve workplace conflicts.
